You’ve been thinking about getting a new office copier. Maybe you’ve given some thought as to what features you need or even decided on a particular model. Now it’s time to make your decision – but, should you lease or buy? There’s a case for both, but it all comes down to your unique needs and your budget.
Let’s compare leasing versus buying to help you make your decision:
Leasing
Pros: Copier technology is constantly evolving. Leasing a machine gives you the opportunity to have the latest technology available and the chance to upgrade every few years, hassle free. While leasing can be a bit more expensive then buying in the long run, leasing can allow companies to acquire a higher-end model than they would not have been able to afford otherwise. And, when you lease a copier, you’ll have a predictable monthly expense which can help you budget more effectively.
Cons: If your business needs change and you no longer need the equipment, you may be obligated to keep up with your lease payments depending on your lease terms. Often companies are surprised to find out at the lease’s end they are responsible for returning their copier to a location specified by the leasing company, at their expense.
Buying
Pros: When you buy it, you own it; there’s no lease agreements, and you’re not tied to the machine. This can be an advantage if your business is growing quickly and your needs change. Because it’s yours you can sell your copier and upgrade anytime, and you’ll probably recoup a portion of your investment. When you purchase a copier you don’t have to return the machine to the leasing company, as is often the case with many leases.
Cons: Purchasing may require the need to finance, making it a challenge for your company to fund other expenses. And when you no longer have a need for the copier and decide to resell it, you could find that it’s value has depreciated over time.
There’s no right or wrong answer when it comes to deciding whether to lease or buy your next copier. A reputable agent will work with you to find the best copier to suit your needs, within your budget.
